My traps are usually sore after doing cleans, especially if I have not done them for a while. I've heard both schools of thought on the shruging motion during the clean. Some say it is a major part of the movement others say it should be more of an afterthought. Bud Charniga coaches the latter. However I think their is some merit to coaching the shrug as a major part of the motion for athletes because of the stability the traps provide for the entire shoulder girdle and neck area.
