I think that they mean nothing except for how they relate to a specific individual and their training background/history. I think in certain programs that emphasize lifts you can use them as indicators, similar to how Dan has seen positive correlation with OHB to 100m prowess. However I think that blanket statements and arbitrary numbers such as 2x BW for squats lose their validity when it’s very likely that the three fastest men in history would struggle to do just that.
Obviously if you are going to include lifts in the program, you want to see progression in the form of increasing poundages. My contention, and I assume most people’s as well, is that lifting is a means to an end, a supportive apparatus in the training model and the best application is through submaximal intensities as to allow for greater emphasis on the specific goal–more speed.
