I can't believe it took me so long to remember this one:
In '99, I was training at an indoor track in my area. To clean the track surface, the maintenance guys used these minature zamboni-type machines (like the machines that smooth the ice between periods). So I'm doing block starts for at least 15 min. before the incident, and the zamboni-pusher has seen me in there for at least an hour. Low and behold, after about my 5th step out of the blocks (head is not up yet), I barely see this huge black thing out of the corner of my eye–I do my best Allen Johnson imitation, the mini-zamboni hits my trail leg, and I am officially airborne…..BOOM! Landed right on my shoulder. Amazingly, no injuries. The coup de grace? The mini-zamboni driver comes over to me with attitude like it was my fault.
