Listen here buddy,
At 5’8 110 lbs 11.9 is pretty damn good.
– I’m guessing you’re pretty skinny and everything. Haven’t touched a weight just yet.
However, 5’8/110 is a classical milers frame – as you have proved.
Basically you naturally ran a 5:00 mile, which is also pretty damn good. I will actually venture out to say that the two times you have posted (two different events), are close to equivications of eachother. I will also say that if times are true, you have some definite natural ability at either event, which isn’t impossible. Some sprinters could be great milers. Probably no further, but up to 1600 meters.
Where you are right now, you have a choice. The difference between 11.9 and 11. flat will probably heavily be made up by strength, for you. So you can gain some muscle/gain some power/gain some weight – and go on to become a sprinter. Or you could stay at your natural body size and become a mid or distance runner. You really could choose either in your scenario.
I know that you love Ato and Mo, so do I. If sprinting is where your heart is, do it. You have ability. If it’s not what interests you then choose other.
