I'm sort of confused about one thing…I hear Martin Rooney's new video says use 3 second eccentrics. I could understand doing this sometimes on assistant lifts for hypertrophy, but say you were doing this with lunges or something. It's going to convert more towards IIA which is okay I guess because most strength work does, but doesn't it also kill off some of the reactivity you have?
This is why I suggested eccentric work at various velocities. For example, both racking and catching the bar as you let it down during an olympic lift are examples of a high load fast eccentric work. Likewise for dynamomter work, drop-catch jumps, etc. Also, as you hinted at, I think best results would always come if this type of work were paired with training that develops both the eccentric and subsequent concentric work (the reactivity you refer to).
