The crowd in Beijing love him. Everyone is talking about Usain Bolt. He has brought 100m and 200m sprinting plenty of good publicity. It’s the first topic that anyone talks about in regards to the Olympics. I don’t even remember the name of some of the swimmers except the Australian ones. Also generally he is rather amusing.
His celebrations were quite appropriate for someone that clearly is a class above the rest, he is young, and this is his first victory. If he keeps celebrating that way should he continue to thrash every other sprinter on the planet then I think we could say that it is detrimental to the sport but for now sprinting has been elevated to a class above the rest as a sport. The IOC can get nicked for not being more stringent on drug testing in the past – now they test people multiple times before the race. What took them so long to work that one out? They should hold a press conference and criticize themselves first. Usain had brought our sport back into the limelight.
Onya Usain – for now!
