I have been pondering this one for awhile, but I think it was good for our sport. Seldom does a track meet or athlete get TV time and coverage. Mo Greene had to fire extinguish his shoes to get air time on Sports Center.
If we create fans that watch Usain because they think he is cocky, so be it. Most will tune in because he is a freakish talent. Track needs an athlete with the star power of Usain that caters to the ADD culture of television watchers.
My two cents on the 100m: While he did celebrate while running, he didn’t rub it in the faces of anyone else. He celebrated for himself and for his country. When a guy hits the winning shot in a game, he first celebrates, then shakes hands. Go watch any sport competition with a championship on the line and see how many athletes shake hands first then celebrate. It doesn’t happen.
I just pray that he is clean and can keep running.
