OHB is lies. In high school, we had a 58'+ thrower (went over 60ft, but 58 in the time frame I am talking about) who had the 4th best OHB on the team. First was a pole vaulter, then a discus thrower, then me–sprinter. Only the discus guy could even go over 50ft in the shot. Actually, he was 5th best if you include a 220+ft jav thrower.
Maybe I should have clarified that you have to at least know how to do the test competently. If you suck at the OHB and throw the thing straight up in to the air then it's not going to pan out. Obviously this guy had the power to throw much further but sucked at the actual test. In my work with elite men's and women's shot putters over the last 6 years and having worked with plenty of good multi-event throwers (including 2 over 15.50m), this is the strongest correlate I've ever found for any field test with a track event.
