Some of Bret’s stuff got some play on ET a couple months ago. I can’t remember the thread, though.
It seems like a lot of guys are incorporating his stuff and I like that he appears to have done some fairly serious research into what works the glutes. That said, I remember someone (Evan, I think) saying the research was primarily evaluating the contraction of muscles (IE only the concentric portion of a lift, and not the (also important) eccentric portion). Seems like Josh, Nick, and a few others are incorporating these lifts into their regimen if I’m not mistaken.
Personally, I have not yet started on any of these, as I feel like I have so far to go on my core lifts to start focusing seriously on assistance work.
However, if doing hip thrusts will make me faster, I will begin incorporating them immediately! Seems like they could also really help the second pull on cleans/snatches/etc. Seems like they could also help on hip mobility and stride length.
Carl (and others) do these lifts work best as assistance lifts, or as an additional core lift? Also, do Kneeling squats have similar utility?
What kind of rep schemes should be used?
