I handle every athlete's progression on a prescriptive athlete-by-athlete basis. I've had cases where the athlete can do 5m accelerations within the first week (despite having difficulty doing the 70% runs). We then progress gradually out to 20m. By that time we'll start doing some quasi-maxV work…stuff like 10m runs with 10-15m sub-max run-ins. This gets them up and running tall but doing so with less than full heat.
