That’s great, John. 7350 would be awesome. Seems like that still leaves you pretty close to the bubble in most previous years…
How fast can you run the 1500m if you need to press it?
Just my two bits (and coming from a guy who hasn’t scored as well as you) but most of the top decathletes I’ve known don’t try to make up points or think about a good event giving them a cushion… They are big on thinking “1 event at a time” – and even 1 attempt at a time. Kind of like golf, where the only thing that matters is the shot you’re taking that second. Seems like that is when the big PR’s happen in individual events, also allows you to not beat yourself up when you have the inevitable screwed up event.
I think a 4.45 is the best I can do at altitude. Although I look very much like a distance runner, its not a strong event for me.
And I am happy to get whatever suggestions you have no matter what you scored. I agree with taking it one event at a time. I just give myself a goal or something to shoot for and if I get it great and im a little more confident and if not then when I do get to the next event I just try and step it up a little bit, but I have gotten pretty good at letting bad events go and just concentrating on what is in front of me.
