RE: trying for big jumps. I’ve always found this to be the case. In fact, I frequently give mini-lectures on the negative affects of trying to be ‘greedy’ and instead urge people to fight the temptation to try to max out each phase. In general with a STJ, the first jump has to be good, each phase should get slightly higher, and the feet HAVE to be under the body on the contacts even though it makes it feel like you’re giving up distance.
