Heptathlon @ Liberty
Meet went ok at Liberty. My achilles started bothering me during HJ warmups so I started off with a 5 step and then moved back to a full approach but it aggrivated it some so the next day I decided not to mess around with it and I pulled out of the competition. I definitely had higher hopes for each event but overall each event was average and I know what I need to work on now. The achilles is not in bad shape but I did feel a little pain so I will probably have to modify sprints on monday to be cautious and then go from there. I assumed I’d run a faster 60 but time wise its not bad for this time of year, but based on what I ran in 30m a few weeks ago I wanted something better. LJ was ok considering we haven’t really done much work for it. My takeoff needs work and I am dropping the landing gear too early and losing some distance there. Shot put, I am making some of the same mistakes I’ve made in past years and trying to muscle it and I end up bending big time at the waist and losing a lot of power. It was also weird throwing from a ring since we do not do that in practice and John and I both agreed we need to make one soon so that we are comfortable throwing in a shot ring. HJ was ok considering my achilles and the fact that we haven’t done any approach work. I clipped 2.08 with heals but was way over it according to a few people.
Basically just more technique work and I will be ready to put something big up. It is early in the season so I know we will be getting more of that in now. Looking forward to training and kicking some more butt this year.
