There has been a lot of research that suggests gradually diminishing feedback is the best method.
The goal should be to have the athlete develop the feel and awareness of his/her performance so outside feedback isnt required. When i have been around the top of the top athletes and coaches in their respective events, very little feedback is given during training and competitions. The odd cue here and there as a reminder but very little in terms of internal feedback if any.
Some positive affirmations also are sometimes heard.
another thing with this too, is a lot of pro track athletes don’t have their coaches with them at most competitions so the coaches need to start creating this independance in practice settings.
