That's pretty much right. Those are the minimums I'll use for my complex training. Another caveat- I don't use it during GPP or with novice athletes.
Mike, could you elaborate? This past year I used complex training for the larger part of 8 months with high school athletes, starting with GPP. This came at a time when the training went very well for them. First 4 weeks GPP lifts were complexed with SLJ, VJ, MB throws, tuck jumps, frog jumps (all 2-4 reps). Next 4 weeks GPP lifts were complexed with 2 x STJ, 4-6 reps MB jump squats, 4 x clap push-ups, short end DL box-to-box jumps, 2-3 hops + MB toss, short-end combination jumps from standing start, and 4 clearances hurdle hops from deep crouch w/ stiff legged landing. We used 2-3 minutes recovery b/n the lift and its pairing and 3 minutes recovery b/n the pairing and the lift again. Complexing was usually done Mon and Fri (given no meets), with 2-3 exercises chosen per session. Do you have in mind higher level complexes with your caveat?
