My first race this season was the last weekend of November. I had roughly 6 months of competition, although outdoors was discouraging as all hell. Even though I hit some good really windy times and still had wind legal PR’s, it definitely didn’t match what I expected from indoors. My only race I had outdoors with good weather was the day after I had a muscle cramp and ran with a pretty sore/tight quad.
I’ve been going over my season and training and there are certainly things in it that need to be changed. 1 thing, for example, is how I transition from my fall training into early winter/precomp training. Given the weather we have in WI and my facilities, I think I will be modifying my workouts a bit. After mid november hits, which is after accel and maxV work for my fall training, I am going to be doing accel, controlled speed work, and plyos instead of trying to force maxV in a place that is way too small for it. I’ll use the early competition phase to regain speed by racing every weekend as works and then once i get later into comp I’ll switch back to every 2nd weekend to make myself fresh for the more important meets.
There are tons of other things that probably need work as well, but right now I’m just discouraged with Midwest weather in the spring. I may go all out for indoor season, take few weeks off and then try to peak for the crappy summer meets out here where I at least know it will be warm out. It’s depressing when you set massive indoor PRs and the outdoor ones don’t follow.
Post season recovery wise, I took a week of sitting on my butt after the last meet and then i’ve just been lifting BB style since. I am probably going to take this next week off completely and then start up a BB cycle so I can finally get some upperbody mass on me. I’m sick of being the scrawny kid.
