I'm always testing and videotaping from the first day of practice. I test 30m x 3 on the first day along with SLJ, VJ, 5 Bounds the bounds they do 2 x, the jumps they do 4-8 times. The first day in the weightroom in I test up to 5RM for bench, squat, and dead over 5 sets. If the athlete hits 5×5 which is rare I just add 5-10 reps to the expected 1RM from a 5RM test. If the athlete goes x sets of 3 reps I extrapolate 1RM from 3 reps. It's the only day I go to failure with most athletes in a lifting session, even then failure is most psychological and recovery is really good after 48 hours, so the next training session is usually pretty good, because I try to only work 2 or 3 days in the 1st week.
