You get a great benefit from absorbing force when an athlete does a full squat clean andf full snatch squat. I dont agree that is the greatest benefit of the OL’s. The pull has triple extenstion, double knee bend an building starting strength from pulling from the floor in a static start.
You can get all of this when you start from blocks placing the bar just below or just above the knees. You can also utilize a bit of movement “dropping” into the hang position to create a bit of stretch reflex. You can always perform a full squat no matter what level you start from.
These are just differences in philosophies. One question is what does an athlete gain by pulling from the floor that is not gathered from starting a bit higher? An advocate of pulling from a higher position would say that you rarely if ever start a jump from that low of a position but rather almost always from the second pull position.
