I’m a baseball player and I need to get faster. I’ve run a 7.1 60 yard dash (indoors on a track), but I am currently running 7.2-7.3’s (outdoors, grass field). I have a couple big showcase events approaching and I was hoping to get my 60 time down to around a 7 flat. Are there any simple tricks or tips that may lower my time (I am not really looking for a workout program, I workout with my team and have recently gotten into a Westside program (I upped my squat 50 pounds but its still only 275 x 3)).
Also, would it help if I was able to create a video of some different angles of me running and you guys could critique them?
Thanks for the help
In baseball, its not top speed you should look to improve (which is tough) but explosive start and acceleration (which is slightly easier). Along with squats, think about doing hill acclerations (both steep and shallow hills), sled drags, explosive weight jumps (jump squats) and plyos such as CMJ’s and drop jumps. And keep working on your squat.
If you’re really crunched for time, check Joe De’Franco’s stuff for 40yd dash tips that could drop a tenth or two really quickly.
The only problem is my showcase just is taking the 60. I know it doesnt relate that well to baseball and so on but, thats how these guys judge speed so I needa work on that. Also, we start from a baseball leadoff stance, so most of Joe D’s stuff wouldn’t apply, at least for the start and such. Anyone know any tips for the 60?
