"and how would you guys go about training for the ten events ? would you use a two week cycle to cover all events? "
A typical week for me in late spring for my training would be something like this . . .
monday: acc. dev, usually in the form of approach work (usually polevault) + lift
tuesday: 30 min Discus, Light Hurdling, multi throw + plyos
Wed: 45 – 1 hour Jav, High Jump and then one to two quality runs
Thursday – Hurdle starts + Block work, light plyos, light multi throws – Lift
Friday – – 15 min jav ball throws – plus premeet (very easy day)
sat – compete
Sunday – 15 – 20 mins of Discus + either 20 – 30 min easy distance or repeat 300's or 400's at 1500 pace
I was very good with both the shot and long jump, so I rarely would work on those two events. Shot was about once every two weeks at most and I would long jump at meets occasionally for practice. I would use the same approach for both long jump and polevault, so my coach and I felt like that was my practice for both. Essentially the rhythm was the same.
As in all workouts, it must be catered to the individual. I did what worked for me and I knew what areas needed more of my attention. It is something you will figure out over time to devise you own program.
