If, come full approach jump time, you have enough time to extend the leg and then swing it back a little, I don’t think it NEEDS to be changed. If the lower leg is going forward at the moment of touch down however, that will act as a braking force. Now if you have Phillips’ speed that won’t be a problem, it’ll even help you gain more height. But Saladino counts a lot more on control during take off, which is where he gets that much height with so little loss of speed. I was watching his 8.73 jump the other day, his take-off there is unbelievably efficient.
