Nice interview. With weight training during the season, I think this is a tricky one. On one hand, you need to maintain max strength and improve explosiveness. On the other hand, there is some research to suggest that lifting weights reduces the amount of Type IIx fibres – and that a period of heavy lifting followed by a period of no/minimal lifting leads to an over-shoot of Type IIx conversion (basically, doing weights, then stopping weights gives you more type IIx fibres). As far as I am aware, the research showing these results is still in the preliminary stages, so its hard to say wither way I guess. If total volume is low, this probably lends itself better to IIx conversion/maintenance than high-rep programmes.
