Hey Carl what if tempo is done on a track should the athlete reduce the overall volume? I perfer during some of my tempo workouts on the track.
reduce the volume and distance and speed. Volume is 80% speed is 65% and distance is best in 3/4 the distance.
I also do them once a week indoors and an alternate means another day and jack up the weights to keep the tendons and joints healthy.
Thanks Carl, want to make sure I understand you correctly. If tempo work is done indoors, reduce speed, volume, and overall running distance. Also during indoor perform one season on the track and the second session would be done as circuits etc? Not sure what you mean with “jack up the weights” does this mean weight circuits? For my athletes during the training period we will stick with 600-1400max both days done on track. During the comp period one day on track with 1000m and maybe one day of incline tread walking.
