    I would tell the coach that you always have a choice. He can race you to death in every rinky dink dual meet or have you ready at the end of the season when the most important meets take place.

    You can always find races to go to and not mess with such nonsense. This isn’t football where the season record means anything. If he doesn’t listen then arrange for him to meet with you and your parents and the AD. Explain that while you want to be a team player, you also deserve to be developed so that you can score at the truly important meets such as the state meet and consistently running 5 events in a meet is not in your best interests. Maybe having a couple meets like that early in the season strictly as a workout might not be bad, but a steady diet isn’t going to aid your development one bit.
