I went to discuss this matter with him today. Since he has been coaching for twenty years(produced 0 sub 5 guys) he knows what is best for me. After talking to him about it not being in my best interests, he exclaimed “How do you know that? How do you know what is best for you? I have coaced for 20 years.” I mean, who do I think I am by having an idea of what I am capable of? I mean, its not like I trained myself for the past 10 months or been living with myself for almost 16 years. I told him I would gladly triple(even quad) when it really mattered and use some meets as a workout like that. He then informed me that I would now have to follow his system(5 days a week on the track=15 miles give or take), or not be on the team. He told me also that I was disrespecting my team by doing conditioning runs when they are “busting their balls” on the track. Every one of my teammates said the same thing about that comment; “I dont care what you do as long as you are ready to go at state.” or “You are right, he doesnt need to race everyone so much, nobody cares about these small meets anyhow.” His way or the high way? The speed limit is faster on the high way.
