good points star….btw i am not a shotputter..just to clarify..one thing you said that about powerlifters lifting in 90% is that they train to improve there maxes…shaun pickering explains that his just trains for power and this is why the majority of his lifting was in the 70% range
I agree with that. I think most strength and power athletes train in that range for most of the reps they do in a week, including powerlifters. I think the mistake some make is that they don’t venture into the >80% enough, and may rarely if ever lift at 90%. I would agree with the last posters suggestion that both power and max strength should be trained, with max strength being more important for anyone who hasn’t reached something near their potential for limit strength. Once an athlete nears their genetic potential for limit strength, true power training becomes more and more important.
