Without considering sprinters strong and weak points and who specializes in what etc, generally the fastest should run the 2nd leg, 2nd fastest the anchor, 3rd fastest the start, 4th fastest the 3rd leg. My coach explained how the 2nd leg is nearly a complete straight away and is the longest distance at 120M approx. where the 4th leg is about 110M. the 3rd leg is a very short curve at about 80M and the start about 90M. Distances are approximate and may vary based on coaching, but the way our coach set up the exchanges and such, thats how it works, and I think that is how it generally works as well.
