great post. The lecture from the SuperClinic was really good and really examines a lot of the current thoughts on peaking. I think as we understand overreaching, recovery, and adaption timeframes more over the next several years it will have a big impact on training theory.
The Euro circuit and collegiate championship seasons are great examples of extended peaks. 2-4 week cycles of high performance followed by brief back to work cycles seem to be enough to maintain high levels of fitness. Issurin’s work on Block Periodization touches on this, too.
