I know that you are a student of your sport so I expect you will have read Speed Trap? Did you ever have concerns over how Malcolm’s traditional training week might impact on the CNS?
Also do you think it’s possible that the quality of your sessions now would be higher if you dropped to 2 speed and weights sessions per week?
I have read Speed Trap, and CFTS, and got some of his lectures on video. But I had relatively little input with what training I did with Malcolm – the conversation “Hi Malcolm, the training that has given you success with loads of athletes, and, indeed, myself. Well, I want to change it to this….” would not have gone down well. In addition to which, Malcolms opinion on CF isnt great, primarily because Mark McKoy was trained by CF AND took drugs, but ran his PB when Malcolm coached him. So, basically, I may well have had concerns about how the training would affect CNS, but I couldnt do anything about it!
I do think it is entirely possible that session quality would be higher with the split you suggest. Im not arguing against that, Im saying that it is hard to change a coaches well established and successful training programme!
