i think too many people worry about sprint vol and they should be concern with drop off times, bc if the athlete isn't dropping off why cut him/her short. if the athlete can do 800m of speed at 95% why keep the volume at 300-400. THERE'S NO EXPERT!
Word. I guess if your times are steady through a higher vol (800m) you might be ok but it may take longer to recover from that. That is why I'm not a fan of doing a workout just because it is a certain day of the week. I like total autoreg where you can move days around as needed.
Question for you, do you think i would have made it for 15weeks with the strength and speed volume i was doing? I don't think so, I think something would have happen much sooner around 6-8weeks. Remember now that my whole camp is during very similar workouts as me – with the high speed volume.
I have had people get hurt under a couple circumstances. One was a case of overtraining and then trying to jump in the ice bowl. Another came about 4 days after a slight PB in training on a low vol program. I guess you never know.
