Dynamic warm up
2x8x70m (30-90 secs rest between reps – 6 mins between sets) @ 90-95% effort
5x 200m @ 50% speed
Insanely tough workout today… all that needs to be said.
lawl is this a joke? I hope you didn’t think this was a good idea.
absolutely not, but what can I do? lol… my school is the top ranked track team in my province, and basically in all of Canada. Coaches (especially head coach) are super strict.
the good news is… I don’t go to too many of these practices.
But how detrimental do you think workouts like these are, realistically?
Depends on whether or not you are actually running 90-95% on those 70s and such. I’ve seen a lot of people successful on similar sorts of things, but they are often “bros” giving very little effort (certainly not 90-95%) on those kinds of runs so it turns into glorified tempo and gets them into shape very quickly, but they do not overtrain or overreach really. People who tend to put more effort and work hard in those death march sessions tend to be less fortunate. I was one of those people that tried to put effort into those death sort of sessions and I generally ended up crippled and slower. Others got better, but they were often dogging the workouts, if they even showed up.
