Is there some change to strength training after GPP for you, Ryan?[/quote]
We dont do the same thing all year long people much smarter then me(Bompa) have discovered the manipulation is important. After 6 weeks the body begins to get used to the stimulus and needs to be changed. We run a number of different routines depending on the needs of the event group. However, even the young man I coached who set the national record spent time away from maximal lifting. I do think we need to qualify the conversation about what “is” maximal. Are we talking 90, 95, 0r 100%? Are we talking reps of 5,4,3,2, or singles? Personally, your distance runners are doing so much work on the roads/track I think different loads at different times makes sense. Remember different periodization schemes work better for different event groups. Examples:
