I’ve enjoyed reading your training journal. All the best for the upcoming season.
My coach has the stop watch, usually at the mid-point or the finish of the run distance. Split foot stance (very similar to foot spacing for block start, but slightly more elongated), down into a semi squat position (CF style), arms hanging in front, roll forward with momentum and then when i have the ‘correct’ angle split the arms hard and push. As soon as the back foot makes the first contact with the track my coach starts timing. We dont really look into any conversion to FAT timing, just compare with ourselves and training partners. Hope that helps. I was living in Toronto in 2005, and nearly every athlete i saw at the track used this type of start. I had not seen it before. It is not common in Australia.
Look forward to keep reading your journal Nick.
