Well – extremely disappointing Day 1 in my last multi of the year.
Went down to Dallas to compete at the WGA Decathlon (Which is a pretty high end affair – at least 5-6 guys will go well into 7K territory).
Opened the day with a very solid 12.01 100m (which, sad to say, is an old man PB – but glad to say is .45 down on last year – so good progress(
LJ – Fouled a monster first jump, moved back and got a safety 2nd jump (5.80) and then had my quad seize up on my third jump, and just barely staggered into the pit.
SP – Couldn’t really stand up or sit down – my shot put was garbage – 11.8x
HJ – NH – couldn’t but any weight on my quad. Iced, rested, elevated.
400m – DNS – more ice. So frustrating – bc my 100 time is down 0.19 on 5 weeks ago, plus I’ve been doing good tempo sessions, so felt prepared to run well. Did the DNS in order to avoid really blowing it out, and give myself a possibility of running tomorrow. It isn’t pulled but is close but wiht some luck and good rehab tonight I may have a chance in running tomorrow.
On a positive note, fellow ETer Eric Broadbent put up a huge Day 1 total – 4190 – which is an 80 pt PB – highlighted by a 7.4x LJ and a 2.13 HJ. He is leading a field that includes an 8000 pointer and a 7800 pointer. Eric won 4 of the 5 events in day 1.
