I didn’t end up going to the meet today, as Cubs traffic made me not want to brave the traffic.
Went to the track and did an extensive tempo session (everything at 75%-80% of race pace) with recovery of 1′ per 100m run:
2×100 – 14.5 ish
2×200 – 30/29
2×300 – 48/46
My five year old also did a long jump “practice meet” – 2.27m! It was amazing to see how a little kid just naturally accelerates to full speed, steers to the board, and then settles into a penultimate before jumping. Makes me wonder how much of technique gets practiced/coached/sat (bad positions) out of us – forcing us to have to reteach HS and college athletes. My 5 year old nailed his landing too, with butt replacing heels as he splashed into the sand! Once I get him on a good 5×5 weight lifting program, we’ll get 3m by age 6 🙂
