just got caught up on some of your training…sounds like a pretty solid LJ into that kind of wind. It’s always pretty mentally defeating when your jumping into that kind of wind but still pretty solid. Nice job in the WR also. When you start up with GP are you going to continue the training like a 100 meter/long jumper type stuff or was that just for this summer sort of thing to get your wheels back a little bit? Either way it seems like you are/were making some good progress doing that.
Thanks. Yeah – I was happy with the LJ. Especially since I’m carrying 5-7 extra pounds due to my lifting focus these last months. The weights didn’t quite get to my end of summer targets, and probably could have kept making gains for 2 more weeks, but travel forced my hand. Anxious to get back.
Yes – I think I will focus my physical and technical training around 100m/LJ/SP. Will still do plenty of tempo (which will develop my 400). Going to switch to rotational shot put, so I get carryover to discus.
Mostly just a time management thing. I can only get 2 days of 2-3 hour training days in per week – other days I am limited to an hour, I think.
Am thinking about if I can better utilize Saturday and Sunday as heavy days – which could open a little bit more training time. (IE – 8 day cycle as follows:
Friday is hard lifting, speed;
Saturday is significant technical work on discus, hurdles – plus slow tempo;
Sunday is Shot Put, Javelin, LJ, and IT moving to Speed Endurance.
Monday: off
Tuesday: Lifting, speed
Wednesday: Technical work plus tempo
Thursday: Lifting
Friday Off
Or something like that – so that only 1 work day per week is a pure track session. Other workout split ideas are appreciated. Could I just lift twice a week if I went heavy enough volume? Could I go super simple and just alternate track and lifting days – track days are pretty high volume, but not always high intensity? Could I alternate weeks – where week 1 is strength and plyos 3x and tempo 3x; and week 2 is speed and plyos 2x; weights 2x; tech 2x – and so on.
I know what I see my periodization will look like, but haven’t figured out the weekly schedule set up.
