You guys inspire me.
I’m 55 years old and just coming back to track after 35 years. Back then (1973), I was a 9.5 100 yard dash, 21.7 220 yard dash, and 22 feet (about) long jump.
Last year I decided to try to get back into competition shape. I settled on the pentathlon as my focus, which meant that I needed to learn javelin and discus for the first time. It’s hard to find the right folks to talk to about training. Thank goodness for the internet.
Last year I did one pentathlon and a couple of meets (I had to have surgery–think core–which meant that I barely scratched the surface), and I learned that I wasn’t working out the right way. So now I’m trying to get myself ready for an indoor meet or two this winter, and a 3-5 meet outdoor schedule for 2011.
My goals are a 28 sec. 200, a 6:00 1500, 4.0 in the long jump, and something in the 30-36 meter for both jav and disc. All those are pretty possible, although I need to lose about 20 lbs to be comfortable in the 1500 (right now I’m 5-8, 175). I also need some technique work in the throws.
Anyway, I’m watching you guys and trying to learn. Thanks!
