An interesting piece of information from Rudolf Sopko (During a seminar) Coach + Strength and Conditioning coach for Dani Samuels, Womens World Champion Discus Coach, as well as other Olympic level sprinters.
Anyways long story short he talked about the weights routines of the Germans and Eastern Europeans of the 70’s and 80’s who did huge weights at the 1-3 rep level. He went on to conclude that over the years he felt this method was highly outdated and valued the 5-8 rep range as a superior method to sport specific stregth and power (Favouring power lifts over olympic lifts). He also advised that each workout total no more than 30min with only one main exercise for the arms and the legs i.e squat and bench. The other final bit of information he stated which may seem in consequential to many is the fact that warm up for weights for his athletes is a modified track workout warmup, complete with drills i.e: A-skip B-skip etc, Rather than the typically 5-10min exercise bike and dynamic stretches.
