“Where the Rubber Meets the Road”
I knew I read that same phrase in an amazing piece by some guy…

Sad to see Uncle Vern borrowing from another’s work :<)
I'll scold him when I go down to Tampa in March.
Nice piece, I don't know how I agree with you so much as you are supposed to be the raving ranter. Anyways, I love to see other people (yourself and Vern especially) who recognize the problems in athletic development and sport relating to lack of unstructured play.
I wonder how many kids who play only in leagues and can pump in a billion free-throws straight will ever get it that they will not get better unless they step out onto the playground and learn to be creative with their game in basketball. Dell Curry knew what he was doing, tomorrow I have to go watch a 4yr old and 7yr old play organized basketball at a YMCA of all places. Why not just set out a huge block of gym time instead? I argue night and day with my GF about our son and sports and he is 16 months old. I am not going to let him play organized sports until he's at least 11 or 12, but she's bound and determined to make him play as it's so cute! I keep telling her he'll have more fun on the playground and he'll be better because of it.
