Nice. You run 4+ miles before your race and still run well. Its just surprising, for me at least, to see that at a high school level. Good job!
At this point in the season, I'm using these races primarily as workouts, so I can get away with some of that. I also feel that the tempo efforts before the race is an extremely beneficial practice–it helps fire up carbohydrate metabolism to a much greater degree than an easy jog warm up. Who knows?
