If i run a 54 in the 400 what do you guys think my 100 meter time would be

Mid 11s to mid 12s I would say.
I’m at the extreme end of running a 400 on pure endurance and I hit 53.8s with a 12.4 100 a year back.

My opinion though. Interested to see what more knowledgeable posters have to say.

it completely depends on your training history and to general ability i think…Which end of the spectrum are you, the 100m end or the 800m end ?

You could run 10.80 and not break 54 IF you have next to nothing in speed end…I doubt i could run 54 but would be in the high 10 range in the 100m i think.

I don’t think there is any real way to tell what you would run. You’re more likely to figure your 200m time than your 100m time because the training is so different for the 100m and 400m. I could never run 49, although i never ran te 400m in college, but I ran 10.30. In short there are too many variables to factor in.

Probably need more information like what is your 10-m time? (Joking)

It would certainly be hard to guess your 100-m time from a 400 that is of the time you quoted because of the different pacing strategy needed over the full circle. You might be a gun over a shorter distance. If you’ve got a 400 time then you have the facilities to run the 100-m. If you can’t run a full 100 for now what distances can you run that may give us a better guide such as 60 or 30-m.

I had a guy at USMA run 10.6x but he never broke 53.5 that I can remember. Obviously I didn’t give him too many opportunities at the longer distances but he was one of the cases mentioned above where he was a complete alactic animal with zero capacity for anything over 200m.

This makes me laugh a bit, sounds like a lot of people from my college me and the sprinters joke around and say anything over 200 is off limits to our coach im gonna dread the day he says hey you! I want you in the 4 by 4

400 is a terrible predicter of 100 meter times.

my guess would be 11.5 tops.

but it really depends on how you run that 400. if you start off flying and then hit a huge wall, then youll prob run a faster 100. if you dont start off flying and keep a decent pace throughout the race then your 100 is prob closer to 11.5

How did you use the speed trap? What was your method of starting the timer?

3.65 is ungodly fast for the way that I use (hand down). 3.65 would mean about 10.1x for 100m or lower from a hand down position and about 6.1-low for 55m.

did you place the starting pad under your hand in a 3 point stance or under your front foot?

Or did you get a slight rolling start and just have a set of timing gates at say 1m and then another set at 31m? This is how bobsled / skeleton does it. It yields much faster times.

          Hey,

First point I would like to address is I am just asking a question here.. not putting my times out there.

Second Point Drivephase why wouldnt you come to the meet? last time I checked you ran a 6.38

Third Point- We had a standing start no 3 point start… coach said something about when your drive leg touchs the ground past the ground the time would start.. I would then proceed to sprint and lean at the cameras we did not run in spikes we had to run in our trainners. Each timer had a device in their hand no clue what the relevance was.

4th Point… HAPPY THANKSGIVING people everyone who has time off their trainning use it well! stay off the feet get in the pool do some pool running!

i run my 400 by running slow in the beggining but at the last 100 i start sprinintg as fast as i can. Does that mean im on the sprint 400 runner or a distance 400 runner?

Then your talking abouta mini fly 30m, not a real fly but kinda of one. The times would be much different than a standing one. Still i asume its pretty fast though, but not sure.

get rid of that strategy…you should go hard through the first sixty and relax till the 200 and start to accellerate and hold on the last 100…a more controlled strategy that will give you a faster time…to know if your distance or sprint look at how your 1st and second 200 times compare with your open.. and even simplier what other events do you run a sprint 200 and below or mid distance 800 and up

Agreed, although it shouldn’t matter if you are sprint or mid in terms of event orientation. The most effective race distribution of energy is very controlled and fast start relative the athlete’s ability to attain an optimal race velocity which they can produce the fastest times with.

Although, I typically see this race pattern of slow starts with more distance oriented 400m runners. They don’t blow up in the race, but they can get blown away when the start is too slow from a lack of preparation work.

I agree its impossible to say.

My training partner ran 12.1 and never broke 55 this year but on the other hand I could run around 11.9 and ran 51.6
