just curious how u guys would prepare an athlete for a 110 conditioning test 16×110's in 15sec 45sec rest. would most training be of int tempo etc.
110 test

Our fb team (who is 1-26 in past 3 years) did that test. Is it valid for footballers? Would there be a better (more specific) test?
its one of the most popular test and have been for many years, almost every div 1 team perform the 110's test, lsu they start there summer workouts with 26×110's, the new england patriots also perform the 110 test. it may not be the best test to do, but if u really think bout it there is not really a so call good test besides playing the game, it gaves the coaches a gauge and a way to push there athletes. tommy moffit said that his guys want to keep running those 26×110's every summer bc they fill like it gives them an edge at least 2 wins games per year. for you the 110 test may be easy since u r use to doing tempos but to some fb guys its not easy.

While I'm not doubting that the workout makes for mentally tough athletes with with lots of endurance I don't really think the endurance is very specific to the sport. I think something like 15-20 x 30m at 90-95% w/ 90s rest would be more appropriate.

so i understand that u guys dont like the test, but if u had to get an athlete prepared for it how would you? i think the 40yd test is a better test bc each effort is bout 5 sec and the players get about 30sec rest, i can look at my sheets to give u exact details. the 30m test at 90-95% is ok but most fb plays u only get bout 30sec rest.

If I had two months to train it I'd probably devote two days a week to it. I'd do one day using reps of 110 yards and follow a progression like:
Week 1: 24 @ 19s w/ 41s rest
Week 2: 23 @ 18s w/ 42s rest
Week 3: 22 @ 18s w/ 42s rest
Week 4: 21 @ 17s w/ 43s rest
Week 5: 20 @ 17s w/ 43s rest
Week 6: 19 @ 16s w/ 44s rest
Week 7: 18 @ 16s w/ 44s rest
Week 8: 17 @ 15s w/ 45s rest
Week 9: 16 @ 15s w/ 45s restThe other day we might do a more standard intensive tempo workout like: 10 x 200 w/ 3' rest for 3 weeks; 11 x 170m w/ 2:30' rest for 3 weeks; 12 x 150m w/ 2' rest for final 3 weeks.

I LIKE IT!! most strength coaches for fb would probably do that on tue and fri and mon and thur would be more sprint and agility work. i know what u guys are thinking why soo much high intensity work.

I assume he means Bigger Faster Stronger. It's a cookie-cutter training program used by many high school football programs.

dont get how 16×110 are cookie cutter training

I'm not certain behind Dan's thinking but I think it could be because of one of the following:
1. The program does medium intensity running work with minimal rest.
2. The program forces progression rather than letting it happen naturally.
3. The program is known for fairly high volumes.ELITETRACK Founder
