In Frank Dick’s article “Development of Maximum Sprinting Speed” (listed in the articles section of ET – https://elitetrack.com/articles-read-2149/) he has sprint control tables. He has a standing 150m (hand timed from first foot contact over start line) of 15.09 – 15.19 correlating with a 100m performance of 10.17 – 10.24.

I know there are a myriad of factors at play, but does anyone have their own data to support his?

I may be wrong but you may want to ask RJ24.

For the most part, Frank Dick’s tables are correct, but their correctness fails when execution fails. When execution is near perfect, ie a solid start and acceleration, and a good transition to maxV then the 150m table fits very well, if not then they don’t. Make sure you test on a variety of his tables.

For me personally, there is very little direct correlation between practice times and race times. As my practice times improve, so do my race results, but the practice times themselves are not good.

Some examples–I ran ~6.78 55m video timed and with no reaction 3 days before I ran 6.97 60m in a race (first race of the season).

I also ran 6.73 or so 55m (again, no reaction) 3 days before I ran 10.76w in my first 100m race.

I hear of other people running crazy times in practice then running slower in meets, but I consistently drop no less than .3 off my short sprint times from practice to meets.

Davan, even if there is a drop off, even a significant drop off, if it is consistent then it could be used to make estimates. Are your drops consistently around .3 seconds drop, or do they range from .3 to something much higher?

.3-.6. The drop isn’t very consistent and there is too much variation because of other factors (training cycle, caffeine vs no caffeine, etc.). As long as there is a general trend, I know there is improvement, but in general, not much correlation.

How about this one–I ran 22.1 in training first time doing a fast rep over 60m (first run period over 80m) and 23.6 in a meet…. Weather conditions were terrible, but still.

          Another example,

There is a video of HSI training and their guys (Ato and Mo) are running 6.6-6.7h 60m… days before running sub 10s (which is like 6.4-6.5fat through 60m).

how much does caffeine help anyway?

I’ve run fast with it and without it (in training at least), though I may subjectively feel slower without it. I personally couldn’t put an amount of time on it for how much it helps.
