          Ok. I’ve got a little bit of info back from Beijing on Usain’s unbelievable 200m. It’s not enough to do the type of review on the race that I did on his 100m WR but it should provide some interesting fodder nonetheless. Apparently, Bolt’s splits were 9.96 and 9.34 for each 100m segment. Compare this to Michael Johnson’s 10.12 and 9.20 seconds for his 19.32 in Atlanta. The faster start by Usa

          After pondering this for a couple of days now, I don’t think Bolt will break 19s, but he will certainly come close to putting this record under 19.10s.

          I don’t think he’ll break 19 seconds either unless he got some really freaky conditions like a swirling wind that was assisting around the curve and in the straight (but still registered as under the allowable limit).

          I really don’t know. 9.8s + 9.2s = 19.00s (or 9.9s + 9.1s). I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect him to go much under 9.9 through the curve thou, which kind of makes it even more difficult to “catch up” on the straight. A +1.7-2.0w would definitely help, and one of the outer lanes too. Perhaps Bolt on lane 7 and Asafa on lane 8 (working like a rabbit the first 100m) somewhere in Greece 😉

          But… if he manages to press his 100m to 9.5X and routinely goes under 9.7s, then I suppose it’s possible for him to run the curve at sub 9.9s.
