I didn’t get automatically logged in yesterday although I had my username and password saved. When I tried to log in manually I got the message that my username wasn’t in the database. I tried several times to make sure that I hadn’t made any typos.

I then tried the retrieve password function and got the message that the email wasn’t in the database either. I’m sure it was the right address since I still had the old activation email in my inbox.

I made this new account today with the same username and email address and there hasn’t been any trouble, but how did it disappear from the database in the first place? Some kind of bug?

Any accounts 6 months old or older without any contribution on the site are purged. This helps keep member counts from being inflated and gives a small token of incentive to not just be a lurker. Contributions can be wiki adds, forum posts, or blog entries. Did your previous account have any of the above?

No, I was just a (frequent) lurker. But I figured it could be something like that. I will try to contribute in the future – this site is great, I have learned a lot from it. 🙂
