I spent a few hours today in a library near to where i live researching for a project i am doing. I came across many interesting articles written over the last 30 years or so. One of them however, stood out far above the others. This article had some very incredible details inside, and some of them i will share with you now…
It was an extremely detailed article on the life and training of FEMALE long jumper Anisoara Cusmir- Stancia from Romania during the early 80’s. Her personal best and then world record was 7.43m. She only had jumped a world record of 6.94m indoors…
Quick facts stated in this article which amazed me were;
1 – her standing long jump PR – 3.71m (3.52m, 3.41m also)
2 – her standing triple jump PR – 9.81m
3 – 60m sprint from high start – 6.67 electronic
If these don’t amaze you enough wait until you see her training loads. I won’t write the entire thing on here, but it is CRAZY!!!! Everyday was full of jumping, sprinting and more jumping…Of all kinds, plyos, multi jumps, short approach jumps, bounding, hopping etc…im talking 5 days a week of this…to put it into perspective, this is what she did the DAY BEFORE she set her indoor world record of 6.94m;
20-30 min special warm up
3x standing long jump
3+3 full run ups (timed)
8x full approach jumps (unmeasured)
6×12 step jumps (best= 6.23m)
6×6 step jumps (best= 5.63m)
8×4 step jumps (best 5.10m)
4x80m acceleratins (85%)
10 min warm down
Again, this was the day before her WR setting competition…
what does this tell us? Can all this be true? Were drugs the leading factor? are her PR’s for real? what do you guys think…
