Very confusing title I know. I’m an 800 metre runner (1.56), training for 800’s and probably miles as well. In addition, I’m competing in a 14km road race in 3 weeks time, and planning to run a half marathon in october. In addition to 5 days a week of 800/mile training (winter training – I live in Oz), I’m doing a long run each week (up to 21km at the moment), therefore 6 days. I’m planning to knock down this long run by 10 mins each week until the 14 k’er in August, then have a easy week, and slowly build up the long run again, toward the half marathon in October. My question is (finally! you say), can I maintain the 800/mile work, as well as building up the long run again? This is my 1st off season of incorporating a long run into my program, and I don’t want to burn myself out, as I have a consistant 18 months of training/competing ahead of me (both northern and southern hemisphere comps).
