Hey everyone. Just thought I'd start a training log since I've been running for 3 yrs now at Univ. of Hartford, and thought I could benefit from any and all advice I can get.
Here are my current bio stats:
age: 23
ht: 5"7
wt: 143 (updated 8/1/05)
Let me start by explaining alittle about my background. I came to college my freshman year out of the marine core, where I played football. I weighed 185lbs my first year starting track. I had NEVER run track in highschool before, only played football and lifted weights, so I had no expectations or goals to begin the year. My first year ended with me running the 55m at 7.98 and 100m at 12.70. By that summer though, I learned that I needed more endurance, and less muscle bulk, so I slimmed down. My second year, I came in weighing 155lbs, and my coach put me in some longer races, the 200 and 400m. That year, I finished with PR's of 26.63 in the 200m, and 57.98 in the 400m. During that year, I also lost more weight and went down to 143lbs by the summer. Let me state though, that through all of this time, I stayed with a VERY intense lifting program, and my strength remained my best aspect.
That brings me to this year. During the summer, I ran and lifted with the objectives of tightening up my body, and gaining more endurance. So, I ran longer distances, and longer sprints, anywhere from 1-7 miles a day, and 100m-1000m sprints. I ran 5 days a week, mon-fri, with sat and sun off, and lifted mon, wed and fri. I also ran XC for the first time this year, while still training on the track with occassional speed workouts and in the weight room, but now only 2x a week.
That brings me to where I am today, in a bit of a quick summary. I have already competed in 2 indoor meets thus far, and have had mixed results. My first meet, I ran the 200m in 25.58 and the 400m in 63.06. My second meet, I ran a 28.21 200m and a 63.02 400m. And that brings me to Winter break.
Since this is my first log, I will put down what I'm doing for running/lifting during the break, and what I've been told i need to improve.
The first aspect I've had to deal with is learning to run on my toes and NOT my heels. Second improvement is foot speed and foot endurance, since my overall conditioning is great, and I've been told that my 400 times may be laggiing due to running XC which obviously requires less foot speed.
Today is sunday, Jan 2, and I ran 30 min continuous around the track outside, and it's pretty cold here in CT.
Tomr'w, which starts at 6:30am, calls for a 1/2 mile warm up followed by drills, stretching, and 3x short accelerations. The workout is 6x 300m speed runs, with the first 150m hard, stride the next 50m, and then the last 100m hard. 3 minutes rest between reps, followed by a 1/2 mile cool down, and stretching.
I will also be lifting at around 12 in the afternoon, doing our planned workout with the trainer.
Please give all the feedback you can, as I want to improve as much as possible this year!
My goals are to run a 25 flat 200m and a 55 400m.
Ben
