    Big Toe Sprain

          Hi,

          im a long jumper with a right foot takeoff and 2 weeks ago i sprained my big toe joint on that foot…2 weeks later i still cant jog on it without pain and certainly cant put any more force in the track than that. i saw the doctor yesterday and he said its a bad injury because that joint is very prone to re-injury and that it also take aong time for it to heal properly. Has anyone had experience with this type of injury and is it as bad as the doc said it could be…im totally bummed out right now, because this indoor season was going well…

          I had something that sounds similar to your description. It wasnt as bad perhaps but it was painful to say the least. The pain was on top of the joint of my big toe and accelerations would make it flare up. I stayed away from accels and jump stuff for about a week and iced it alot. I was good to go after that!

          Try a high density foam lift under the metatarsal head. I've used this with success on 2 occasions with my athletes. You'll have to replace it almost every day but it should permit you to train and compete. If you're at IC4As come find me and I may be able to help.
