    By how much could a strong core improve times?

          im a 16yr old sprinter 6ft 2in, currently running 11.4 for 100m (PB 11.33 last season), 23.5 for 200m and 7.2 for 60m. ive never had a strong core but i am very interested to see how much i could potentially improve my 100m time by the 5th/6th of july if i began to concentrate a lot more on strengthening my core. earlier this season i was out for a month and a half (march/april) with a hamstring injury, now that i have fully recovered and have a few races done im hoping to break my PB. i’d appreciate any info you could give me!

          i think it depends on what type of shape your core is in already, and your running form. A solid core can help you improve running posture. Little changes like that can take of a tenth. Some dynamic drills can help improve running form, in combination with a stronger core.

          a stronger core will likely improve anywhere between nothing to .2-.3s for an 11.4ish runner. A stronger core doesn’t just mean abs it includes muscles along the back and hip as well. If the greater core strength means you are able to control greater moments about the hip during ground contact you’ll run faster. Basically what I am saying is if core strength and postural attributes are your limiting factors then it will mean more than if your core strength is adequate. Nevertheless, it’s not a bad idea to train your core in the first place.
